These were wonderful! I love how many teddy bear faces came from one plant! I will be planting these every year as they’re about the cutest flower ever and added so much joy and whimsy to my garden. I’d never heard of this sunflower before and decided to try it. I’m so glad I did! Happy gardening 🌻🐻

well, I finally had one of them bloom and the others will bloom soon too! I am very pleased; they are so adorable and I have had great success with these seeds! I plant sunflowers every single year and I plant all different kinds of sunflowers and this is my first time ever planting Teddy Bear sunflowers. I will certainly be planting these next year and all the years to come.🌻🧸🌻🧸🌻🧸🌻

Had a difficult time getting them to grow in some areas.

This year I must have attempted to grow at least 10 batches of sunflowers and I finally figured out how to get them to germinate and succeed. In the ground my guess is the squirrels and chipmunks get to them or maybe they don’t germinate at all. But starting inside with the below steps will help up your germination rate tremendously!
1. First snip off the tip of the seed. These are small so just a tiny bit will do. You want to have access to the part inside the shell.
2. Then soak for 24 hours in water.
3. The next day lightly rinse since stagnant water will eventually cause them to mold.
4. Next put them on a soaking wet paper towel- they don’t need light yet. I just keep them on my kitchen counter so I can keep an eye on them.
5. Day 2-3 you’ll see little roots popping out. Yay! Time to plant them root end down in seed starting soil and water them. (If you wait too long the root will turn brown and eventually mold or die) I still leave the seeds that are in the dirt on the counter until they emerge from the soil. At that point you can put them at the window or better yet, under a grow light.
